The LiDAR revolution for high density data has arrived. Remotely sensed data, often relying on artificial intelligence and machine learning, benefits from significantly higher densities in the point cloud. Today’s leading-edge LiDAR sensors and processes have the capability to meet these specialized needs, and the transformation of dense unstructured data into structured datasets optimizes analytics, resulting in key analytic insights such as feature extraction, change detection, and obstruction analysis. Higher density LiDAR data is critical for applications including topographic modeling, forest inventory and research, utility analytics, built environment modeling and analytics, infrastructure and engineering design, natural hazard planning and emergency response, and habitat mapping. This presentation will focus on the systems and processes for acquiring high density LiDAR datasets and will provide an overview of their application in a variety of scientific fields.
